It’s Out

Well, I just go back from the barbarian’s office, sans tooth #32. That hurt a lot, and it’s starting to get worse as the Novocaine wears off. At least it was fast. This is gonna get worse before it gets better, but the good news is my office is closed tomorrow through Tuesday so I can lie around and complain in the comfort of my own home. Brenda will be thrilled.

Words cannot describe the delight I feel by being the oral surgeon’s entertainment for the day; after several moments of yanking and tweaking the tooth was out, and he goes “cool root”! He showed it to me — the same way a satanic gargoyle shows you your heart after ripping it out of your chest — and explains that the hooked root is probably what made the extraction “uncomfortable”. Uh huh.

Apparently in a couple weeks I’ll be totally 100%. In the short term, I have some Vicodin.

The worst part is, I forgot to ask him for the tooth. No souvenir, dammit.

Merry Christmas

Well, if this ain’t the most non-standard Christmas I’ve ever experienced, I don’t know what is.

After the Blizzard of the Universe rolled into town Wednesday, dumping nearly three feet of snow in Boulder and Denver, our office closed on Thursday — my first-ever adult snow day! But the nagging pain in the back of my mouth that began with the first snowflakes continued throughout the snow day, and so Friday I found myself in the dentist’s chair, looking for answers.

Answer: my wisdom tooth needs to come out.

Extra information: It’s Christmastime, and no one is friggin’ around to do the job, so I get to complain to Brenda about my aching mouth until friggin’ Thursday. So, with my jaw barking at me, we decided to cut our losses and reschedule our east coast swing, avoiding the fallout from the blizzard at the airport (turns out our scheduled flight was only delayed an hour on Saturday) and allowing me to self-medicate with alcoholic beverages and rich food (I made steak tartare last night).

Last year was the first time I spent Christmas without my mom and my sister (we went to Brenda’s Mom’s place), but this year we will not be with any family at all. We’ve been wanting to do a Christmas in Boulder, but this certainly wasn’t the way we wanted to do it. But, we are lucky to have already amassed some great friends here in Boulder and we will party with them tomorrow and hopefully I’ll forget all about my tooth situation for at least five minutes or so.

If you have any painkillers lying around, mail them to me. The airport is open once again, and you could expedite the shipping. Meanwhile, accept my deepest wishes for a Merry Christmas and an enjoyable holiday season.

Assbutt

One time, in high school (not band camp), my friend Brian Scargill called someone an “assbutt” in gym class. I’ll never forget it. I thought it was brilliant, to call a guy an amalgam of slang phrases for the posterior. While I never forgot the moment, or the expression, I’ve never, ever used it. But now I am forced to do so, for fear of calling this idiotic moron something far worse.

Say hello to Assbutt “Breakdancing,White,In2006” Assholeface:
Assbutt, kickin' it at the 2006 Holiday Party

This horrific image captures the New York City Twentysomething Financial Sector Asshole Jerkoff in its natural setting around this time of year, the office holiday party. My dear friend sent me this picture as evidence that she needs to get the hell out of her current job, but I would argue that most office environments are habitats for similar specimens. Sigh…

Moved

Well, shit. That took longer than I thought. Delayed by a holiday party video project and thwarted by my webhost’s computer being downed by the horrid weather and resultant power outages in Seattle last weekend, I am now moved in to a new home at dreamhost.com, and my email is slowly trickling over to the new home on a more regular basis. In the meantime, I went to a roller derby contest (no shit), made a movie (no shit), read a book (well, I started it, anyhow) and prepared for the upcoming Christmas holiday (as best as one can). All worthy of talking about here, and in earlier times I would have talked about all these events in realtime. All I can say is that it feels good to have finally gotten my website moved to a new home and out of my friend’s hair, I’m looking forward to the holidays, and I’m fully planning on tweaking my site and — most importantly, posting more often — in the new year.
