that's awesome.
my dad's car got broken into by a bear a few nights ago just outside of boulder (old stage road) and ate all his groceries.

meanwhile, i lived in boulder for 10 years and never saw a bear. ran through lots of poop though.

Hmm, probably around 9:30 this morning. And I almost ran over a squirrel on the way home. Does my bike have some sort of high frequency emitter on it that is attracting these creatures?

Wow. I rode up through Jamestown this morning...and only almost ran over a chipmunk. What time was your bear encounter?

I had a similar experience mountain biking in Gatineau Park (outside of Ottawa). It was near sunset, and I was descending on a dirt track and it crossed right in front of me. Another time a beaver dragged a shrub onto the road just in time for me to run over the branches. The beaver took off into the woods abandoning the shrub. I was disappointed - I wanted to hear him damn me.

Wild stuff! I'm glad it wasn't a grizzly. Those things scare the beejebus out of me. Not that I'm fond of the idea of running into any sort of bear, mind you.
